Candidates

Not if the assessment is timed. In order to protect the integrity of the testing process and ensure fairness to all candidates, this is not allowed. If you have to complete more than one assessment, you can take a break between assessments. If you like, you can also sign out and complete your remaining assessments during a subsequent session.

If the assessment is timed, you must try to complete it within the allotted time. If you do not complete the assessment within the time limit, you will not be able to gain full marks. It’s therefore important to managed your time carefully during the assessment. However, on some assessments it’s quite normal not to finish all the questions. Don’t panic, just do as many as you can.

We try to make our assessments as accessible as possible, but please contact the hiring company if you feel accommodations are needed.

Our assessments are color-blind friendly, but do require otherwise normal vision and sustained attention. Some assessments have time limits.

IT

You can use SciRec with any modern computer. Candidates should ensure they have a reliable internet connection before they start their assessments.

Our app and assessments should work with any modern browser but we recommend using the latest version of Chrome, Firefox or Safari for best results.

Using a desktop or laptop is best. Modern tablets will also work well, while phones are not recommended and functionality is not guaranteed.

Some assessments use complex images, making phones too small even with high resolutions, and entering answers may be slower without a keyboard, putting candidates at a disadvantage.

Technically, we recommend a screen with at least 1024 virtual pixel width, which generally means newer tablets and any reasonably modern computer.

Assessments

Our assessments are mostly 10 minutes or less. We generally recommend combining several assessments; these combined batteries are usually still under 20 minutes. There is also the option of longer assessments for finalist candidates.

All our assessments are scientifically validated for consistent and valid measurement, and the constructs we measure are backed up by solid science demonstrating their utility as predictors of on-the-job performance. They are designed to deliver highly predictive assessments in minimal time. Many other firms offer tests that are not scientifically validated or do not accurately predict on-the-job performance.

All of our assessments are validated, though via varying methods. Some are well-established scientific assessments with a long track record of reliability and validity for employment purposes. Our original assessments are validated using one or more of these approaches:

  • Convergent/divergent validity: comparing their results to existing assessments to ensure agreement or uniqueness
  • Item Response Theory (IRT): the relationship between a person’s underlying trait and their probability of answering an item accordingly
  • Consensus of expert opinions

We also consider the perceptions (face validity) of those taking the assessments, to ensure that the relevance and usefulness of the questions is clear.

Employers

Yes, you can both enter any existing assessments you use as part of your recruitment process or build entirely new ones. Our platform has all the most common question types (and even some uncommon ones), and scoring and weighting options to meet nearly any needs.
